Duties
The Hardscaping Crew Member performs manual labor in support of outdoor projects. Work is performed under the supervision of a crew leader and involves assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of patios, walkways, retaining walls, seawalls, steps, drainage systems, grading, and related site improvement projects. Duties include loading, unloading, moving, and staging tools, equipment, and materials; preparing and cleaning job sites; removing debris and existing materials; digging, shoveling, raking, grading, leveling, and compacting soil and aggregate materials; assisting with the placement of gravel, sand, drain stone, landscape fabric, pavers, concrete blocks, natural stone, edging materials, topsoil, and related materials; assisting with drainage pipe installation and water-control systems; operating hand tools and assisting in the operation of power tools and equipment as directed; maintaining safe access around work areas and equipment; protecting customer property and existing landscape features; and performing general site cleanup and material disposal. Workers are responsible for maintaining an organized work area and ensuring job sites are left in a clean and professional condition upon completion of work.
Requirements
Must lift/carry 50 lbs., when necessary. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, kneel, shovel, rake, dig, and stand for long periods. Must be able to work outside in changing weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, snow, and uneven terrain. Must be comfortable using basic hand tools such as shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, levels, tape measures, brooms, utility knives, and basic digging tools. Must be able to understand and follow established safety procedures and worksite rules; receive and carry out instructions from supervisors; work cooperatively with other crew members; maintain regular and punctual attendance; demonstrate professional conduct in the workplace; and exercise appropriate caution when working around tools, equipment, machinery, and active work areas. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. Employer-paid drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers prior to commencing work and post-hire at random, upon suspicion of use, and post-accident. Post-hire background check and employment eligibility (e-Verify) check required of foreign and domestic workers. Workers that are able to obtain a valid U.S. driver's license may drive company vehicles (driving is not a requirement of all workers in the position). Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
